Happy Book Lovers Day

9th August 2022 was designed to celebrate readers around the world.

To those who don't read books at all, on this day, I want to give you the reasons you should make books your closest friends. But before that, I want you to know that I've been reading books for as long as I can remember. I can't tell you the exact day I started reading books. However, I can vividly recall the types of books that started my bibliophilic journey.

On this day I want you to know that books can heal wounds that you can't see or touch. Although I admit that when you're bleeding inside, it's about talking to someone. But too often you can find healing antidotes in books that can help you reconfigure life. They can help you let go of the burden that is holding you back from the joy of the moment.

On this day I want you to know that in books you have mentors who can help and guide you build your professional career the way it should. Reading books can help you be the first port of call in any workplace you find yourself in. Because they can make you be the best professional you hope to be.

In addition, books can help you build confidence and set goals. So if you want to stand out from the crowd, you have no better partner and friends than books. Plus, they can help you learn the social coping mechanism that earns you more friends than enemies.

Most importantly, I know that so many of us want to be good writers someday, but the bottom line is that if you want to be a prolific writer, you have to be a voracious reader. Without a doubt, books can help you become the writer you foresee. Therefore, you must read what others have written if you want your write-ups to be as good as theirs.

Often people tell me that they can't read any book other than their academic ones. They always tell me that the moment they start reading a novel or any self-improvement book, they get dizzy or lose interest. Similarly, other people always ask me how to start reading books. Well, may I tell you that reading a book is like any other exercise? You don't like it the moment you start - it takes time. You have to start page by page. As time goes by, there are days when you can read a hundred or more pages in one sitting. Don't rush it. keep it simple

Accordingly, I want you to know that reading books without applying the lessons learned is like writing on the surface of a river. That means you're just wasting your time. For this reason, I encourage you to read books, not for the sake of your friends who do, but because you want to add value to yourself. Don't read books for the sake of competition. The reason I say this is because you may know that at the end of each year your friends share the books they read the previous year. As a result, you may feel pressured to get involved in a business that is costing you the most valuable time that you should have invested in something else that will make you the person you hope to be. So I encourage you to be careful with this trap.

In conclusion, on Book Lovers' Day, I want you to know that books are an integral part of what will one day make you who you are going to be. They help you build the bridge that you must walk on in your life. Similarly, books are the most powerful work of art that helps you differentiate between fiction and reality.

Ultimately, I hope this short write-up can help you change the way you think about books. I hope you are among the people who will celebrate this day next year.

PS: Interestingly, there is this amazing author, Elif Shafak. She is such a good writer who takes you on a journey you never thought of, even in your wildest dreams.
