Challenging God's Will is Suicidal

Sen. Ahmed Lawan and Bashir Machina

Without a doubt, the will of the people of Yobe North has prevailed. But first and foremost, I would like to congratulate Bashir Sheriff Machina and any person involved in this process from the start. Your incredible efforts to revitalize Yobe North from the rubble left by the current Senate President of Nigeria are not in vain. Indeed, today is a massive day to give thanks to God for his inexhaustible blessings — it is God's will that has brought us this far.

Moving forward, it is no longer a cliché that if any person ignores his elders' wise counsel should blame him/herself for whatever occurs. This is precisely what we have been saying for the previous four to five months: the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, should not prolong this game that he will ultimately not win. However, he mistakenly took the wrong routes and interpreted the rules of the game wrongly. Undoubtedly, he has fought hard. Therefore, on behalf of every Bashir Machina's follower, I want to say a massive thank you to Ahmed Lawan for his unyielding belief that he could win the ticket that he has never fought for. I wish him all the best in the future.

Although I don't want to go into too much detail about how and why we got here, it is essential to remember that negative intentions toward the people that you represent politically and economically at different levels can only lead to a suffocating end. Today's Court of Appeals judgment demonstrates unequivocally that when God has something in store for you, it makes no difference who stands in your way. As long as you will keep your motives pure, God has promised to be with you and will illuminate your path when the road appears too dark.

God willing, Bashir Machina would be our next senator representing Yobe North in the 10th National Assembly. As a result, I would like to remind us that the journey has only just begun. We should not underestimate the magnitude of the new challenges that lie before us. We have one more barrier to overcome before we can establish the desired change. The opposition party has been watching closely and may give it a go. Accordingly, we are expected to buckle up once more and do the real work of making Machina our next senator.

Similarly, I want you to bear in mind that our opposition may try all it takes to frustrate us to not do our tasks as they should. Therefore, we should not fall for their amorphous traps. Further, I urge you not to engage those who provoke us to be warlike with one another. Our expected task in this crucial phase of making Bashir Machina our next senator is to go out there and ensure that everyone responds to his call for a more thriving and united Yobe North. Besides, this call is much more than just making Machina our next senator; it is about restoring the hope and change that we have been praying for too long.

In the same way, I would want to emphasize that Bashir Sheriff is not opposed to anybody who wishes to participate in this good cause. Everyone is welcome and we do not discriminate against anyone. As a result, I want to underline that it is never too late to dream big. You are most welcome to join us on our quest to make our zone a better place for everybody. You are welcome to join us on this journey to reimagine leadership in our region.

In addition, for those who have not yet joined this adventure, I would want to reiterate Bashir's core goal. Machina believes in building a more diverse, vibrant, and inclusive society in which everyone counts and deserves to be treated with dignity. These are not just words; they are the unbreakable commitments that have gotten Bashir thus far in both the public and private sectors. He, indeed,  envisions a Yobe North that allows possibilities to flourish. He is young, full of enthusiasm, and willing to work hard.

Finally, let me emphasize that the battle has just started. The time for dithering is not on our side. Let us continue to promote Machina's gospel of optimism amid uncertainty, of choosing a future in which the vast majority of Yobe North residents are safe and secure. Let us get together and make it one more victory for Machina's mandate. Let us mobilize an immeasurable number of people to vote for a prosperous future for everyone. Let us continue to encourage every eligible voter in Yobe North to vote for Bashir Machina as our next senator. We can hit our target only when we forsake the comfort of our zones. Again, nothing has ever been impossible for us to do when we work together. Let's go guys.
