February 13 was dedicated by UNESCO to celebrate the tremendous impact that radio has had in bringing people from diverse backgrounds together. Therefore, as we celebrate radio's importance and influence, here's to another fantastic year of captivating radio programming and the resounding strength of this remarkable medium!

Moving on, I've always been fascinated by the world around me, and how different people of different ethnicities and civilizations lived their lives. That's why, when my parents gave me the option to choose what I wanted after primary school in 2006, I knew exactly what I wanted: a transistor radio. Although youngsters my age were preoccupied with bicycles or video games at the time. A Kchibo brand was bought for me. This was the onset of my love for journalism and international relations — even though I studied neither at the university.

Undoubtedly, listening to the radio news every day gave me a diverse and beneficial perspective on the world. I was exposed to a range of opinions, viewpoints, and ideologies and gained knowledge about events that I wouldn't have encountered otherwise. In particular, I was attracted to international news agencies like the BBC, VOA, Deutsche Welle, RFI, etc., which gave me insight into the lives and perspectives of innumerable regions around the world. Locally, I was a huge fan of Radio Nigeria Kaduna Hausa Service.

Additionally, tuning into the radio for updates taught me the significance of staying informed. I developed the skill to challenge the information I received, ask questions, and look for additional sources to verify the accuracy of the news. This helped me gain a more complex understanding of the world and consider various viewpoints.

Finally, listening to the radio news from a young age has had a huge influence on my worldview. It has extended my horizons, taught me the value of knowledge, and influenced my values and views. I will always be a strong believer in the power of journalism and knowledge to improve the world.
