Disgruntled Senate President Supporters Have Renounced Their APC membership in Yobe North

If you remember, Hon. Bashir Sheriff Machina visited Yobe North a few weeks ago to thank his fervent lovers for their unwavering support during his legal battle with Nigeria's incumbent Senate President. During the visit, Hon. Machina's supporters responded in large numbers and greeted each other with their hands wide open. This has sent a shockwave that destabilized Senator Lawan and his supporters. 


So, a few days later, Ahmed Lawan supporters scheduled a "mega rally" in Nguru that would bring together every supporter of Lawan from Yobe North's six local governments. The goal of this gathering is to state unequivocally that they would not recognize any APC senatorial candidate in the region unless he or she is Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan. The rally was held today in Nguru LG. 


However, the ostensibly massive event they publicized a few days ago has turned out to be a small gathering of disgruntled supporters. During their addresses, the lead organizers said firmly that they would vote for the PDP in the presidential election and will not vote for His Excellency Mai Mala Buni, let alone the legal candidate for the APC Yobe North senatorial district. 


The thing that has to be clarified from today's event in favor of the Senate Leader is that they said during their announcement that this rally is in support of both Mai Mala Buni and Senator Lawan. Unsurprisingly, they contradicted themselves. Because they disrespected the ruling party (APC) and the governor of Yobe State. They have today shown to the rest of the world who they are and what they stand for in Yobe and Nigeria by extension. 


Without a doubt, their statements throughout the assembly were completely contrary to the governing party's guiding ideals. This is why I feel the executive governor of Yobe State should act decisively and immediately in response to this gross breach of the APC code of conduct and membership. Because if they are let off the hook, they will continue to undermine the party even if they cannot inflict considerable harm on it.


Furthermore, how do they believe that such measures would finally turn Ahmed Lawan into the illegal candidate that they want him to be? The Federal High Court Damaturu and the Abuja Appellate Court have resolved the complexities of the Yobe North scenario, and Hon. Machina has been declared the APC's lawful flag-bearer. Because he was the successful candidate in the senatorial district primary election. Lawan, on the other hand, ran in the presidential primary election and was defeated by Bola Tunubu. It was all written in black and white.


Finally, I feel it is time to reconsider who is an APC member and who is not. Because it is not proper for a gang of so-called APC members to create unnecessary confusion in our beloved Yobe State. The Yobe State Government must weed out the bad apples. We must make it plain to them that the party will not accept their reckless behavior. That's all.
