Aggrieved Yobe North Senator is on a Mission to Jeopardize the Peace of his Constituency

Sen. Ahmed Lawan: Nigeria's Senate President 

The recent revelations regarding Nigeria's incumbent Senate President surreptitiously organizing rallies to disturb peace and order in Yobe North are discomforting. Because how can someone who prides himself as a thoughtful leader be covertly planning an unlawful assembly of mischievous youngsters and thugs? Undoubtedly, Ahmed Lawan is on a mission to risk the peace that keeps Yobe North together.

The campaign council of the legitimate APC senatorial candidate for Yobe North, Hon. Bashir Sheriff Machina, as revealed by the body's spokesperson, has been reliably informed that the ostensible rally would take place in Nguru LG, in which the plans are to damage Hon. Machina's billboards, and campaign infrastructures.

Furthermore, the campaign council received classified intelligence indicating that goons from other states were hired to carry out the atrocities. These goons are said to stir up Machina's supporters, injure them if they react, and destroy everything on their way related to the lawful APC candidate for Yobe North in the 2023 election.

A few months ago, if you recall, a bunch of thugs headed by the Senate President's faction attacked and injured Machina's supporters in Bade, Gashua LG. Similarly, during Machina's "Thank You Visit" to the same Gashua a few weeks ago, Lawan supporters assaulted, harassed, and wounded several of Machina's supporters. Also, during the encounter, several of Machina's cars were destroyed. Besides, it's important to note that Gashua is Lawan's birthplace. This says a lot about the Senate President.

Therefore, if Lawan and his mobs are allowed to engage in these unlawful operations called rallies, Nguru LG would be subjected to barbarous crimes. This is why it is vital for APC stakeholders, security agencies, and anybody else with a say in Yobe and Nigerian affairs to call an end to this devilishly organized assembly. Otherwise, Yobe North will plunge into despair.

On the other hand, I don't understand why Ahmed Lawan is acting as if he was not the man who conceded the Federal High Damaturu judgment in September. He stated in a special statement that he will not challenge the decision because he accepted it in good faith. Nonetheless, he filed an appeal at the Abuja Appellate Court. Lawan was disappointed when the Appellate Court upheld the initial lower court ruling, which declared Lawan's claims null and void. 

Unquestionably, Lawan has contradicted himself twice, which is awful for his quadriplegic caliber. I am urging him to reconsider his planned rally. Because going forward with the planned activities is a violation of the rule of law. Simultaneously, I am urging the paid thugs to decline his invitation to disrupt peace. The law will not be pleasant to those who break it.

Before I close this piece, I believe it is important to explore what has triggered the political uproar in Yobe North. Ahmed Lawan is the incumbent senator representing Yobe North at the National Assembly for nearly two decades. However, he dreamt big this time and ran for the APC Presidential seat, but he was beaten by Bola Tunubu. Hon. Machina, on the other hand, responded to his people's requests to run for the Yobe North vacant senate seat, which he finally won by a big majority. Surprisingly, Lawan returned to fight for the seat he had left behind to pursue his presidential ambition. That was the beginning of why we are here trying to quell the unthinkable. 

Crucially, I want to remind Lawan and his camp that they are on the wrong side of history. Endangering the lives of innocent civilians is a heinous crime. They should remember that Yobe North does not deserve this from one of its longest-serving lawmakers. Therefore, being dissatisfied with the recent Appellate Court decision, the massive crowds that greeted Machina in all the six Local Governments of the region did not imply risking the lives of innocent people.

In the end, hiring thugs to wreak havoc will not make him the candidate he is fighting to be. Therefore, I am urging him to lower the temperature and accept his destiny for the last time. Otherwise, history will never be kind to him. In the same way, I am urging Machina's supporters to turn against the voices that may instigate us to react on impulse. Machina's journey has never been for folks who prioritize their interests over the public good. May Allah protect us from both known and unknown enemies. Frustrate them and disorient their nefarious politics.
